'Whale' meets 'whale' in Vatican

Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti has tweeted a photo of herself meeting Pope Francis in the Vatican on Thursday.

She wrote that during her official state visit to Europe, meeting the pope had been on her agenda and she wanted to thank him personally for the Vatican’s support of the recent Our Ocean conference, which took place in Bali in October.

Susi also wrote that the message was delivered by Archbishop Piero Pioppo, the Vatican’s ambassador to Indonesia, during the conference.

She also attended the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) general meeting in Monaco, where she met Prince Albert II to give him a book about combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in Indonesia, which was compiled by the Presidential Task Force to Combat Illegal Fishing (Satgas 115).

The minister also signed a letter of intent between Indonesia and Monaco for research and cooperation on ocean coral reefs, met Poland’s Maritime Economy and Land Navigation vice minister to seek partnership possibilities, and attended an Ocean’s Action Day in Katowice, Poland.

Regarding Susi’s tweet on meeting the pope, a staff member, Fika Fawzia, tweeted a comment saying, “Actually Ibu Susi’s code name in the office is Paus [whale, which also translates to pope]. So yesterday’s report was ‘Paus [whale] ketemu [meets] Paus [pope]’.” (mut)
